How To Rewrite AI Content More Human, More Natural and More Like You.

Let’s face it: there are many AI writing tools around today.

They’re quick, convenient, and a big help in getting over the blank page hump. That said, if you’ve ever simply copied from an AI writing tool into your document, you’ve likely noticed this:

It looks like a robot wrote it. It is polite. It is polished. It is perfectly fine. However, it is not truly “you.”

That is why you rewrite the AI writing.

You do not have to discard the content generated by AI. You simply need to reshape it so it sounds more human, more natural and more like you.

In this article, we will provide some practical methods to accomplish this.

To repair what AI writing produces, you have to identify what AI writing produced.

AI writing has several telltale characteristics that indicate that it was written by AI:

Tone too formal. Every word is very “furthermore,” “moreover,” and “in conclusion.” Nobody speaks like that at the coffee shop.

Repetition of phrase. The same sentence structure keeps showing up: “This is important because…”, “Additionally, this can help…”, “In conclusion…”.

Generic, obvious or superficial comments. AI does not want to be wrong so it usually plays it safe. You get a lot of obvious, vague or surface level ideas such as “Communication is key” or “Staying organized is important.”

Equal, predictable rhythm. All of the sentences are roughly the same length. There is no “voice” or “energy” — just consistent, flat writing.

When you can see these patterns, you’ll know what to change.

Pause before making any changes to the text, and ask yourself: Who am I writing for? What do they really care about? How would I explain this if we were having a phone call or were sitting on the couch?

Now take a look back at the AI draft. If it wouldn’t sound like something you’d say out loud, then that is your first indication it needs to be rewritten.

Here is a trick: Read the AI writing aloud. If you trip, roll your eyes, or think “I would never say it like that,” make a note. Those are the sections to revise.

There is one way to quickly humanize AI writing, and that is to relax it a bit.

Use contractions. For example: “You will notice that the process is simple and straightforward.” becomes “You’ll notice the process is actually pretty simple.”

Speak directly to the reader. Use “you,” “I,” and “we.” This makes it seem like a conversation rather than a lecture.

Ask questions. Questions engage the reader and cause the writing to seem more like a conversation.

This is where AI cannot compete with you: your lived experience.

Add a small anecdote about a client or situation (but not anything that is private) and your genuine opinion. These types of additions immediately make the writing seem more human because they are human.

AI generally uses polished, medium-sized sentences. You can break this pattern.

Vary the pattern of your sentences. Use short, punchy sentences for emphasis, and then follow that with a slightly longer one that provides additional detail; add lists when describing procedures.

AI tends to say: “It is important to…”, “One of the primary advantages of…”, “In today’s fast-paced world…”. These are fillers. You can do better.

Instead, describe real life scenarios and mention specific tools, situations, or emotions. Specificity seems human. Generalities sound artificial.

Do not use “thus,” “moreover,” or “in addition” if you never say them. Replace formal words and phrases with how you normally speak.

Real people don’t write like grammar machines. You don’t need to intentionally write sloppily, but a few minor, natural imperfections can make your writing seem more sincere.

Rewriting AI writing is far more than replacing words with their synonyms. It is about developing the message.

Ask yourself: Does each sentence really convey useful information? Are there any places you can reduce repetition? Can you express this idea in fewer words and make it stronger?

Read the entire piece aloud one final time after you believe you’ve finished.

If you’d feel comfortable speaking those words to another human being, you’re in a good place.

AI is a tool, not a replacement for your voice.

Let it aid you in generating ideas, outlining and creating an initial version of your work. Then, come in as the human writer: Make it conversational, add your stories and opinions, eliminate the fluff, and retain what feels like you and eliminate what doesn’t.

That is how you transform AI-generated content into something warm, honest and human.
